This Sandwich-Making Wooden Play Set includes colorful likenesses of meaty cold cuts, garden vegetables and fresh bread. The entire pieces feature Velcro inserts, so keeping sandwich creations together is no problem. A play wooden knife rounds out the collection. The kit comes packaged in a 12" X 10" wooden crate. Also, it includes 18 mix-and-match pieces total.

Summary: Great toy, as are all M&D
Comment: We love Melissa & Doug toys in our house. My daughter gets hours & hours of creative play from their products. I have no complaints about quality and haven't had any problems with this set. This set allows for tons of mix & match fun with the various pieces and even provides educational opportunities (How many green items are there? How many red? Can you make me a sandwich with 4 pieces? How about 6?). It even comes in a great wooden box, not cardboard, which comes in handy for storage.
It seems that at least one reviewer had a peeling paint issue; I would suggest to anyone with any type of quality issue to call Melissa & Doug. They have WONDERFUL customer service and are VERY responsive to any question or issue. We had an issue with a puzzle once and they replaced it quickly and with no hassle on our end.
We also called to query about the "Made in China" paint issue once all of the problems began to surface. We were informed that all of their products follow strict quality control, supervised by M&D personnel, and that there is NO lead in ANY of their paint whatsoever.
I can honestly say that I feel safe & confident giving Melissa & Doug toys to my child, or any other child.

Summary: Great toy for years of play, but the paint does chip.
Comment: We've had our M&D Sandwich Making Set for years now, and it is still a favorite with my two, four and six year old. The velcro still sticks together well, and the velcro tabs are securely attached.
The paint has chipped a lot from years of rough play. This toy is made in China, but there is a reassuring safety statement at the M&D Web site promising that their toys are well tested, including the paint. Some of the pieces were made from slightly split pieces of wood, and repeated stress has finally broken them. This is a nice alternative to plastic, and I will continue to buy M&D toys as long as they remain safe.

Comment: My 3 grandchildren, ages 2 1/2 to 3 1/2, love this! They take orders for sandwiches, then have a great time making them! The pieces are made from wood, so there is nothing to break.
